Only thirty minutes from our Black River whitewater headquarters is the 1000 Islands Region, an internationally renowned vacation destination. The Thousand Islands region encompasses communities along the St. Lawrence River and the eastern shores of Lake Ontario on both sides of the US Canadian border . The region takes its name from the more than 1000 islands that dot the lake and river along this international waterway. Many people remark that the gorgeous garden of woods and waters that is the 1000 Islands is truly one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Alexandria Bay, Clayton, Cape Vincent, and Wellsley Island offer accommodations including full service resorts, hotels, motels, B&Bs, and great waterfront state campgrounds.
Sackets Harbor is located twenty minutes west of Watertown and has some small hotels and B&Bs as well as camping at Westcott Beach State Park.

There are a number of excellent NY State campgrounds in the Thousand Islands Eastern Lake Ontario Region located near the Black River in Watertown. Click on the image or map below for desciptions and to make reservations.
Keewaydin State Park is on the St. Lawrence River, offering excellent boating and fishing.The sheltered marina provides dock space for seasonal and transient visitors. Overlooking the river are 48 campsites. The park's terrain includes steep, rocky outcroppings between the campsites and the shoreline, providing vantage points for watching the ocean-going vessels traversing the river. The park also has a swimming pool and picnic areas.
