You went rafting on the Moose River
in New York! You went rafting on the Hudson! And now you are wondering what
else there is to do for whitewater with A.R.O. Well you can complete the A.R.O.
hat trick with a Spring rafting adventure on the Black River. That’s
right, A.R.O. offers yet another great Spring rafting trip with the beginning
of Black River season in May.
After the Moose and Hudson have had their way with you, the
Black River eagerly awaits its turn. A “big water Black” trip will
bring back that heart pounding adrenaline rush you thought only was found on
the Hudson and Moose. The big-water Black provides an intensity not found on
the other rivers. Rafters must perform difficult maneuvers as you negotiate
threatening hydraulics and exploding waves. The possibility of an unexpected
swim or an overturned raft exists throughout the trip. As with the Spring
Hudson and Moose the “BIG-WATER Black” is not for
everyone.

But A..R.O. does have a river trip for everyone. As the river
begins to settle into its Summer personality it becomes more then just a day of
thrilling whitewater. It's stretching back in the hot sun as your raft drifts
down a quiet section of the river, It's floating in the warm water, it's water
fights and dunkings, it's jokes and songs, shorts and tees and the camaraderie
of friends and family all topped off with our famous chicken BBQ following your
trip. It's the perfect Summer day. It's the BLACK RIVER.
But whitewater remains the star. Packed into eight miles of
river are no less than 14 sets of rapids. River trips begin at our Watertown
N.Y. outpost located on Newell St.

FROM RT. 81
Take exit 46 to
Coffeen Street. (From Rt. 81 North traveling from the Syracuse area, turn RIGHT
onto Coffeen Street. From Rt. 81 South traveling from the Thousand Islands
region and Canada, turn LEFT onto Coffeen Street)
Follow Coffeen Street and cross a set of railroad tracks. Take
the third LEFT after the tracks which is City Center Drive, (it veers to the
right after your left turn). Follow City Center Drive until you come to a major
intersection at Mill Street, (also Rts. 11 & 12 North). Turn Left onto Mill
Street, then LEFT again ont oNewell Street. Our headquarters is on the right.
Look for a large green warehouse type bulding - "ADIRONDACK RIVER OUTFITTERS -
WHITWATER RAFTING" is printed in large white letters on the front of the
building.
FROM RT. 12 TRAVELLING FROM THE UTICA AREA:
Follow the
signs for Ft. 12, (there are left turns in Lowville and as you enter
Watertown). Then follow the signs for the Public Square in downtown Watertown.
Turn right just as you reach the Publick Square, (there is a large, light
colored stone church with a clock tower on the corner). DO NOT enter the
square. After turning right, go through on traffic light, (be in center lane as
you approach the light). Then take your first left onto Newell Street. Our
headquarters is on the right. Look for a large green warehouse type bulding -
"ADIRONDACK RIVER OUTFITTERS - WHITWATER RAFTING" is printed in large white
letters on the front of the building.
